Within the boundaries of the military park there are several hundred cannons, most being from the siege of Vicksburg itself, so we have history that needs to be preserved in our own backyard.
Families will report to the Visitor’s Center at 8:00 am. VNMP employees will then organize and assign families to cannons. Two people can paint a cannon in approximately 2 hours.
Please sign up with Mrs. Thornton or the Families First office.
In 2016 the National Park Service celebrated its 100th birthday. As we look toward the next hundred years, we hope to motivate the public to #FindYourPark and become an active volunteer. As volunteers of the park, you all will be taking on a vital role as preservationists of history. This town has strong community connections and a remarkable story of resilience and the Vicksburg National Military Park is proud to be a part of it.
